QUETTA: An officer of Counter Terrorism Department, Mitha Khan, was martyred after unknown armed assailants opened fire on him in the Killi Ismail area of Quetta, Sunday.
According to police, the incident occurred when Mitha Khan was performing his official duties in Killi Ismail when unidentified attackers suddenly opened fire on him. He sustained critical injuries in the attack and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds.
Following the incident, police and security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers, while evidence is also being collected from the crime scene.
Meanwhile, the Government of Balochistan expressed deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of CTD officer. Adviser to the Chief Minister on Political and Media Affairs Shahid Rind said in a statement that Mitha Khan was a brave and dedicated officer who rendered remarkable services for establishment of peace in the province.
He said the cowardly attack cannot weaken the resolve of the people of Balochistan and law enforcement agencies. Shahid Rind added that an investigation into the incident has been ordered and those involved will soon be arrested and brought to justice. He further said that the Government of Balochistan shares the grief of the martyred officer’s family and prayed for the elevation of departed soul’s ranks.
