ISLAMABAD: In response to energy crisis, Pakistan Digital Authority has developed an application for providing petrol subsidies. The app has undergone separate testing at both user and retailer levels.
According to sources, security and data verification tests have been conducted for subsidy app. Retailer-side testing included transaction and quota verification systems, while user-side testing focused on registration and eligibility checking mechanisms. Load testing was also carried out to assess simultaneous access by thousands of users.
Meanwhile, the process of entering user data into petrol subsidy application is ongoing. Data is being integrated from Benazir Income Support Programme, as well as records of low-income individuals compiled during Covid-19 pandemic and floods.
Sources say only government-designated low-income individuals will be eligible for subsidy, and a specific petrol quota will be allocated for them. To qualify, motorcycle or rickshaw must be registered in applicant’s name. Relevant departments have been instructed to facilitate registration in the names of bike users.
According to sources, the government is also considering various options, including smart lockdowns, to reduce petrol consumption and multiple measures are under review to curb fuel usage.
