LAHORE : The Punjab Home Department has extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for another seven days, according to a handout issued by the Directorate General Public Relations Punjab.

A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department said the extension has been made due to potential security threats and concerns regarding law and order. A notification has been issued imposing a ban on gatherings, rallies and demonstrations.

Under the notification, gatherings of four or more persons at public places without permission will be prohibited across the province. The restriction will remain in force until March 14.Law enforcement personnel performing official duties are exempted from the restriction.

Similarly, gatherings related to weddings, funerals and burials are exempted. The meetings in government and semi-government offices and court proceedings are also not covered under the ban.

The notification further states that display and use of all kinds of weapons in public places have been completely prohibited across Punjab.

The spokesperson said intelligence reports indicate that sensitive gatherings could become targets of terrorism and sectarian violence. The Home Department has directed authorities to take all possible measures to maintain law and order and ensure the protection of life and property.

District administrations and police across Punjab have been instructed to strictly implement the orders.
