ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday hosted an Iftar dinner in honour of orphan children at Aiwan-e-Sadr in connection with World Orphans Day, stressing the need to ensure a better future for vulnerable children.
Addressing the ceremony, the president said it was a pleasure to meet the “future architects of Pakistan,” adding that Aiwan-e-Sadr was their own home.
“These children are not defined by what they have lost but by the strength within them. They are our own children and their future is the future of Pakistan,” he said.
President Zardari described the children as the bright future of the country and stressed that society had a collective responsibility to support orphaned children and ensure their proper care, education and upbringing. He said efforts would continue to provide better educational opportunities and a brighter future for children across Pakistan.
Referring to emerging global trends, the president noted that the coming era would be driven by modern technology and stressed the importance of equipping the younger generation with the skills needed to meet future challenges.
Chairman of the Pakistan Orphan Care Forum, Farooq Habib, along with other distinguished guests, also attended the ceremony.
The forum’s chairman thanked the president for hosting the event and encouraging the children, saying that fulfilling the dreams of orphaned children and building their future was a collective responsibility. He added that the forum was currently supporting more than 100,000 orphan children.
At the end of the ceremony, the president distributed gifts among the children who attended the event.
