Mayor Murtaza Wahab on Saturday directed Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) officials to set clear completion timelines for all ongoing and upcoming development projects in the city to ensure their timely completion and provide maximum relief to residents.

During a meeting Wahab chaired at the KMC head office, Municipal Commissioner Ibrar Jaffar briefed him about the physical and financial progress of development schemes being executed under various heads, including CLICK projects, grant-in-aid schemes, and the provincial and district annual development programmes.

The mayor said development activities have gained momentum, and residents are beginning to witness and feel their positive impact. However, the current pace of work is not yet satisfactory, so further acceleration is required to meet public expectations, he added.

He said development schemes are not merely limited to tendering processes and fund allocations but represent the commitment of the government and municipal administration to deliver efficient services and improved facilities to people.

He directed all chief engineers and relevant departments to expedite work on all ongoing projects, and ensure their completion on a fast-track basis. He also ordered that completion reports of all schemes be submitted before May 30.

He said that over 100 development schemes are under way, while 139 new road schemes are in the pipeline. He ordered completing ongoing projects swiftly so that work on new schemes can proceed without delay.

He also said the city faces no fund shortages for development works. The Sindh government is fully supporting Karachi’s development initiatives, while the municipal utility charges & taxes collected by the KMC are also being used exclusively for infrastructure rehabilitation and improvement, he added.

KMC Financial Adviser Gulzar Abro briefed the mayor about the allocation and release of funds for various development projects. He said that additional disbursements are expected within the next few days, and that funds would be released without any administrative hurdles.
