HYDERABAD: A meeting of the Sindh Action Committee was recently held at GM Syed Edifice in Jamshoro under the chairmanship of its convener Syed Zain Shah where the participants expressed deep concern over the ongoing war situation between Iran, and the United States and Israel.
The meeting stated that the conflict could prove harmful for the regional as well as global peace.
The participants particularly condemned the killing of innocent children in Iran and attacks on schools, hospitals and civilian areas, terming them extremely tragic and a serious violation of international laws of war.
The participants urged the United Nations to take immediate and effective measures to ensure a ceasefire in order to safeguard global peace.
The meeting also condemned incidents of firing on peaceful protesters within the country during demonstrations against the war, resulting in casualties.
The forum demanded dignified and respectful repatriation of the Afghan refugees residing in Sindh, stating that similar steps had already been taken in Punjab and other provinces, and that Afghan refugees living in Sindh should also be sent back to their country.
The meeting rejected any plan to create new administrative units or provinces in the country, stating that Pakistan was a multi-national state comprising historical units with their own historical homelands.
They warned that creating new administrative units within these regions would lead to instability and damage the federation.
The meeting criticised the Sindh governor, alleging that he was promoting hatred and attempting to create divisions among the permanent residents of Sindh. It was also alleged that these actions were being carried out with the backing of President Asif Ali Zardari.
The committee further claimed that the president and the country’s establishment were creating conspiracies in provinces through their representatives, which could lead to a situation resembling civil unrest.
They demanded the immediate removal of the controversial governor.
Strong resentment was also expressed at the continuation of the Jalalabad Canal project, which, the participants claimed, was aimed at diverting Sindh’s water.
They termed it an injustice to the province and criticised the Sindh government’s silence on the issue, calling it a betrayal of the people of Sindh.
They also decried the arrest of students and lawyers during events held on March 4 and raised concerns over a Chinese company in Karachi’s Keamari area allegedly laying off local workers.
It demanded that industries give priority to local residents in employment and called for the Sindh government to ensure the protection of local workers and implementation of agreements with multinational companies.
It was decided in the meeting that after the Eid, a series of national conferences would be organised across Sindh under the platform of the Sindh Action Committee.
According to the schedule, a conference would be held in Sukkur on April 2 hosted by the Jeay Sindh Mahaz, another in Nawabshah on April 16 hosted by the JSQM-Shaheed Bashir Khan Qureshi, and a third in Thatta on April 30 hosted by the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Party.
Similar conferences would also be held in other districts of Sindh.
Among those who attended the meeting were Riaz Chandio, Dr Niaz Kalani, Nawaz Khan Zunair, Altaf Khaskheli, Nisar Laghari, Dr Badr Channa, Roshan Ali Barro, Panhal Sario, Allama Ayaz Qumi and Aftab Khanzada.
