The Sindh government will distribute free pink electric scooters to selected women at a special ceremony to be held on March 8 (Sunday), marking International Women’s Day, as part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting safe, independent and environmentally friendly mobility for women.
Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Friday that the programme is designed to empower women by improving their access to safe and reliable transportation.
According to the minister, selected women will receive electric scooters under the scheme, along with training in road safety and scooter riding to ensure they can use the vehicles confidently and responsibly.
“Providing women with safe and independent mobility is an important step toward their empowerment,” Memon said, adding that the Pink Electric Scooters Programme is a key component of the Sindh government’s wider efforts to facilitate women and promote sustainable transport.
He noted that the initiative would help enhance women’s mobility, independence and participation in economic and social activities, while simultaneously encouraging the adoption of environmentally friendly transport solutions.
The minister further emphasised that the programme reflects the Sindh government’s commitment to creating inclusive and sustainable transport opportunities, particularly for women who face mobility challenges in urban areas.
Memon said the government remains determined to introduce more such innovative initiatives in the future to support women’s empowerment and promote green transportation across the province.
