ISLAMABAD: The government has officially notified the appointment of Shahzad Iqbal, Member (Gas) at the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), as vice chairperson. He will officiate as acting chairperson until the regular chairperson is appointed.
The tenure of former Ogra chairperson Masroor Khan expired on February 19, 2026. The government took 11 days to designate Iqbal as vice chairperson following the completion of Khan’s term.
An important hearing scheduled for March 2 regarding dollar-based returns on a multi-million-dollar oil pipeline project was deferred. The proposed pipeline is to be laid from Machikay in Faisalabad to Tarujabba in Peshawar.
According to a notification issued on March 3, 2026 (Tuesday), in terms of Section 3(13) of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority Ordinance (No. XVII of 2002), the government has designated Shahzad Iqbal, Member (Gas) as vice chairperson at Ogra, with effect from February 23, 2026. The notification further stated that upon the appointment of the regular chairperson, Shahzad Iqbal shall cease to hold the office of vice chairperson.
