PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday issued notices to the federal and provincial governments, along with other relevant authorities, seeking their responses to two writ petitions filed for the recovery of missing persons.

A single-member bench comprising Chief Justice SM Attique Shah heard four writ petitions filed for the recovery of missing persons and sought the complete record. The court referred two other identical petitions to the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearance.

At the outset of the hearing, counsel for the petitioners, Additional Attorney General Sanaullah, the additional advocate general, and police officials appeared before the court. Counsel for petitioner Abdul Rehman informed the court that his client has been missing since last year and has yet to return home.

He said that despite searching for Abdul Rehman at various places, the family recently received information that he had been taken into custody by the police. At this point, the additional advocate general told the court that no complaint had been registered against anyone by the petitioner. However, he said that reports suggested that the missing person had allegedly joined a proscribed organisation, and that his brother had also become affiliated with the same outfit.
