Sindh Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon visited major commercial centres in Hyderabad to review the prices of food items.
He personally checked the prices of vegetables, fruits, meat, flour, sugar and other basic necessities on this occasion, and directed the district administration to ensure strict implementation of the official price lists during the holy month of Ramazan.
During the visit, some shopkeepers were warned for not displaying price lists and charging more than the official prices. Memon also spoke with citizens present at the markets and listened to their complaints regarding prices. He made it clear that profiteering and hoarding would not be tolerated under any circumstances during Ramazan.
He stated that the Sindh government was taking all possible measures to provide relief to the public, and ensuring the availability of affordable high-quality food items remained its top priority.
He added that Ramazan was a month of blessings and mercy, and turning it into an opportunity for unlawful profiteering was deeply regrettable. He directed the district administration to monitor markets on a daily basis and strengthen the price-checking mechanism so that immediate action could be taken against those violating the fixed rates. He reaffirmed that providing relief to the people was the government’s responsibility, and that all available resources were being utilised to achieve this objective.
