CHARSADDA: A man equipped with a pistol allegedly shot dead his rival inside the Judicial Complex despite the presence of dozens of police personnel.

According to police, the deceased identified as Aizaz had been in custody for allegedly killing a man named Wasif about six months ago. He was brought from prison for a court appearance when Wasif’s brother, Akif, allegedly opened fire inside the Judicial Complex courtyard, killing him on the spot while he was still in handcuffs and under police custody.

The attacker was immediately arrested, police said. The incident caused concern among lawyers and citizens, who questioned how a weapon could be brought to such a sensitive facility despite strict security arrangements.

District Bar Association president Mujibur Rehman advocate told reporters that the incident exposed a “complete failure” of the security system. He warned that if an accused could be killed inside court premises, the lives of judges, court staff and lawyers were also at risk. He also criticized the accountability mechanism, saying inquiries were ordered after every incident but rarely resulted in punishment or identification of those responsible.
