MANSEHRA: A local court on Tuesday cancelled the pre-arrest bail of the station house officer of the Pulrah Police Station, who was booked in the murder of a man and handed him over to the police for a one-day physical remand.
The additional sessions judge, Nisar Ahmad Khan, ordered the arrest of SHO Hamza Khan, who had obtained pre-arrest bail in the murder of Abbas Arshad, who was allegedly killed while fleeing after police intercepted his car on February 14 this year in the Fogdara area near Perhana town.
The family members of the slain, Abbas Arshad, were also present in the courtroom when the judge ordered the bail cancellation. The police arrested the accused as he was present in the courtroom and shifted him for an interrogation.
The killing incident had sparked protests and the demonstrators had blocked Abbottabad Road, demanding the arrest and registration of a case against the SHO, who, according to them, fired upon the deceased without any justification after intercepting his car, leaving him dead on the spot in plain clothes.
The police had also arrested former provincial minister Ibrar Hussain Tanoli, alias Iqba, in that case after he hurled life threats at the SHO during a jirga held in Pulrah. However, he was released afterwards when he tendered an unconditional apology for his remarks, saying that he spoke under public pressure and hurled threats against the life of the SHO, which he should not have done, as the police were also theirs.
