LAHORE:An Indian national, Karnail Singh, has challenged his wife Sarbjit Kaur’s marriage (nikah) in Pakistan in Lahore High Court.
The petitioner, who came to Pakistan with an Indian delegation, stated in his petition Sarbjit Kaur arrived in Pakistan on November 3, 2025, on a 10-day pilgrim visa. He alleged she was blackmailed through objectionable photographs and forcibly converted to Islam.
The petition argues that under the Hindu Marriage Act, a change of religion does not dissolve a prior marriage without a formal divorce. It further contends declaring herself “divorced” in nikahnama is false, as no judicial decree of divorce exists.
The petitioner requested the court to direct federal government to immediately deport Sarbjit Kaur upon expiry of her visa. He also requested the court to provide her with a “neutral environment” and to conduct an investigation into alleged forced religious conversion.
