CHARSADDA: Incidents of street crime, including robbery, snatching and theft, continue unabated within the limits of Charsadda and Prang police stations, raising serious concerns over public safety.
The residents allege that the local police have failed to control the growing crime wave.
They said that two students who had come to attend a Khatm-ul-Quran ceremony at the central Jamia Masjid in Tehsil Bazaar were assaulted by two unidentified motorcycle-riding robbers on Nowshera Road. The assailants beat the students and snatched their mobile phones at gunpoint before fleeing the scene.
In another incident, motorcycle-borne criminals snatched a mobile phone at gunpoint from a young man in the Papara area within the jurisdiction of City Police Station.
Meanwhile, two theft incidents were reported on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday in Gulbahar No. 2 locality, spreading fear and panic among residents. Thieves broke into the house of Khaista Rehman by breaking the lock but failed to steal anything. They later jumped over a wall and entered the warehouse of Umra Khan, from where they stole a large quantity of juice and other items. The suspects also stole valuables from another house in the same neighborhood.
They residents have urged senior police officials to take immediate notice of the deteriorating law and order situation and ensure the arrest of those involved to restore a sense of security in the area.
