Sindh police chief Javed Alam Odho has taken notice of the incident of an accident of a police mobile carrying hazardous raw materials to the Sujawal district. He has directed the additional IG of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) to carry out investigations.
Officials said on Saturday that a day earlier, a police mobile had met with an accident in the Sujawal district whiles supply gutka to the interior Sindh.
The Sujawal police have handed over two people, including the detained police mobile driver, to CTD officials, who have launched a probe. They also found betel leaves in the police mobile, police sources said and added that driver Naveed was carrying packets of betel leaves from Karachi.
Police sources said investigations also revealed that about Rs1,500 were to be received for each packet. A private person has also been arrested.
IGP Odho directed the additional IG of the CTD to inquire into the matter and submit a report immediately. He further directed that strict departmental action should be taken against the police personnel involved in the incident, saying that the department’s vehicle cannot be allowed to be used for any illegal or unauthorized activity.
He said the department has a zero tolerance policy for corruption, misuse of authority and illegal activities.
