Police on Saturday arrested a man accused of assaulting a domestic worker in Korangi after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
The case came to light when Korangi-based social media activist Khushboo Khalid shared a video alleging that her mother, Nausheen, a domestic worker, was subjected to violence by the suspect, Matloob Hussain, and his wife. Taking notice of the viral footage, Javed Alam Odho directed the DIG East to take immediate action, and subsequently instructed the SSP Korangi to register a case and proceed against those involved.
Acting on the directives of the SSP Korangi, Awami Colony police conducted a raid in the Saima Villas area and arrested Hussain.
According to a spokesperson for Sindh Police, swift action was taken in response to the public outcry over the viral video. A formal case had been registered at the Awami Colony police station, and an investigation was under way based on the complaint and available video evidence.
The police said further interrogation of the arrested suspect was ongoing, while efforts were being made to apprehend other individuals allegedly involved in the incident. Authorities had assured that all those found responsible would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
