The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) South Zone Karachi on Thursday launched a special enforcement campaign against traffic violations on the directives of Additional Inspector General Munir Ahmed Sheikh.
Officials said the purpose of the campaign was to prevent accidents and ensure safe travel on national highways and motorways. During the last two days, 11 FIRs were registered and more than 3,000 fines were imposed.
The campaign was being carried out across the entire South Zone, including Karachi, where strict legal action was being taken against public service and heavy transport vehicles. During the operation, action was taken against violations such as driving without a valid licence, lack of fitness certificates, route permit violations, overloading, and overspeeding. A special crackdown was also conducted against motorcyclists for not wearing helmets, one-way violations, and overloading.
The NHMP had adopted a zero-tolerance policy against wrong-side driving and directed officers to take immediate action against violators. Vehicles operating with worn-out or unsafe tyres were also being strictly checked on highways.
A spokesperson for the NHMP said heavy fines and registration of FIRs would continue without discrimination. Citizens had been urged to comply with traffic laws and practice responsible driving to ensure the safety of themselves and others.
