MANSEHRA: The people of Oghi and its suburban areas on Thursday complained about the sale of substandard wheat flour, which is being marketed at a subsidised price by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in the district and the rest of the province.
“Though the provincial government wants to address the soaring prices of wheat flour and has announced a subsidy on the commodity, its quality is substandard,” Mohammad Ilyas, a local, told reporters.
A group of people told reporters that the price of wheat flour surged after the Punjab government imposed a ban on its interprovincial movement last year.He said that the government should not only provide quality wheat flour at subsidised rates but also increase its volume.
“If the government is sincere in providing relief to people regarding wheat flour prices, it should improve the quality and increase the number of bags being supplied in Oghi and its suburbs,” Ilyas went on to add.
Another local, Fakhar Zaman, said that both the federal and provincial governments were introducing welfare schemes for the people, but end users mostly remained deprived of their benefits.
“The district food controller should not only ensure the quality of the subsidised wheat flour, but the number of points where it is being sold with limited bags should also be increased so that more and more people could benefit from it,” he added.
