While the PSL has definitely become the marquee competition of the Pakistani cricketing calendar, there is a lot of other domestic cricket that goes on throughout the year in the country. Many players that keep on grinding do not benefit from the limelight that the two-month PSL brings. For instance, this year, spin stalwarts Noman Ali and Sajid Khan appear to have missed out on the PSL altogether, even though they are among the leading domestic performers. While one can understand that franchise owners might be tempted to sign players based on their marketability and it is not their job to accommodate all domestic players, the PCB should make an earnest attempt to reward the best performers in domestic cricket with the type of money and exposure that only the PSL brings. This will raise the bar for these players and help create a more competitive talent pool. Playing alongside some of the best international stars will also lead to much better development among domestic players.
