PESHAWAR: An anti-terrorism court in Peshawar on Wednesday issued a written order in a case related to the May 9 2023 violence, wherein protesters allegedly attacked the Radio Pakistan building following the arrest of Imran Khan, the founding chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

According to the written order, during the hearing, counsel for Radio Pakistan, Shabbir Hussain Gigyani, and Special Prosecutor Nauman-ul-Haq appeared before the court.

The investigating officer was also present and informed the court that the capital city police officer (CCPO) had referred the matter to the advocate general(AG).

He submitted written correspondence exchanged between the prosecution, CCPO, and the advocate general.

The investigating officer requested adjournment of the proceedings, which the court accepted, postponing further hearing of the case until February 28.

The court was informed that nine accused nominated in the case are still absconding.

According to the prosecution, on May 9, 2023, enraged protesters stormed the Radio Pakistan building, set parts of it on fire, and caused extensive damage to public property.

The case also nominated a provincial minister of PTI, along with several lawmakers and party workers.

Their identification and verification have been carried out through the National Database and Registration Authority and the Punjab Forensic Science Agency. However, the forensic and NADRA reports have yet to be formally submitted before the court.
