The body of a boy was recovered from the seafront near Native Jetty, close to the Karachi Boat Club, within the limits of the Docks police station in Keamari on Monday.

The police said the body was found stuck in mangrove bushes along the shoreline. With the assistance of an Edhi ambulance, the body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities before being moved to the morgue after completion of legal procedures.

According to SHO Nand Lal, the deceased child was initially believed to be between four and five years of age, and his identity could not be immediately ascertained. The exact cause of death would be determined after the post-mortem report.

Subsequent investigation led to the identification of the child as three-year-old Abubakar, son of Irfan. The police said the boy’s body was found entangled in mangroves along the shore. Initial inquiries revealed that the child was a resident of Gulshan Sikandarabad in the Jackson area.

According to the police, the father identified the body and informed investigators that he had dropped his son at home after buying him something from a neighbourhood shop at around 10am before leaving for work.

A stream passes close to the residential locality, and the child had been reported missing and searched for before his body was discovered. The police were continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances leading to the incident.
