A judicial magistrate on Monday ordered the release on bail of 23 activists of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in a case pertaining to the violating of Section 144 of the criminal procedure code (CrPC).
The PTI leaders and workers were arrested during the party’s protest near Millennium Mall in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on Saturday and subsequently booked by Sharea aisal police under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). Among those detained were PTI Sindh Vice President Farrukh Khan and Youth Wing Karachi Information Secretary Waseem Korai.
The investigation officer produced the held activists before the judicial magistrate (East), who granted them bail against personal surety bonds, according to Advocate Shujaat Ali Khan. Several senior PTI figures, including Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh, Karachi President Raja Azhar, and Senior Vice President Faheem Khan appeared in court to express solidarity with the detained workers.
