A provincial leader of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, Allama Hayat Abbas Najafi, on Saturday urged the government to provide immediate and meaningful relief to citizens ahead of Ramazan, warning that unchecked inflation had pushed essential commodities beyond the reach of the common man.
Speaking in Karachi, he called for strict action against profiteers and hoarders, demanding severe penalties for those artificially inflating the prices of flour, sugar, ghee, pulses, vegetables, and fruits.
Najafi said the ongoing price hike had “broken the backbone” of low- and middle-income families, leaving them in severe financial distress. He criticised the authorities for failing to control market rates despite official claims, alleging that price control committees had become ineffective and that government-issued price lists exist only on paper.
He further accused local administration officials of incompetence, claiming that profiteering mafias were operating openly without fear of accountability.
The MWM leader urged the Sindh government to launch an immediate crackdown on hoarders, enforce official price lists, and introduce genuine subsidies instead of symbolic Ramadan packages. He also called for the establishment of affordable bazaars and special relief measures to ease the burden on citizens, warning that failure to act promptly would further aggravate public hardship amid soaring inflation.
