ECP announces by-election schedule for NA-256

QUETTA: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the by-election schedule for the National Assembly seat NA-256 Khuzdar, which fell vacant after the resignation of MNA Sardar Akhtar Mengal.

According to the schedule, the Returning Officer will issue the public notice on February 18, 2026. Nomination papers may be submitted to the concerned Returning Officer from February 20 to February 24, 2026.

The preliminary list of candidates will be published on February 25, while scrutiny of nomination papers will be completed by March 4, 2026. The deadline for filing appeals against the Returning Officer’s decisions before the Appellate Tribunal is March 9, with final decisions on appeals expected by March 16, 2026.

The revised list of candidates will also be released on March 16, while March 17, 2026 has been set as the last date for withdrawal of candidatures and publication of the final list. Election symbols will be allotted on March 18, 2026.

Polling is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 5, 2026, in Khuzdar.
