ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Thursday, where they reviewed the country’s political, economic and security situation as well as the regional and global environment.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control Senator Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi, Minister for Law & Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Minister for Economic Affairs Division Senator Ahad Khan Cheema, Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr Syed Touqeer Hussain Shah, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Senator Rana Sanaullah, while the president was assisted by Senator Sherry Rehman, former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and Dr Asim Hussain.
According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari have agreed to improve the working relationship between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), with a commitment to continue the consultative process between the two parties. It was also decided to streamline the legislation. Sources said they also held consultations on key national matters, including internal security issues and election of the new President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan desired to further strengthen its exemplary brotherly relations with Türkiye and enhance bilateral economic partnership, particularly in the fields of agriculture and livestock. The prime minister expressed these views during a meeting with a four-member delegation of Türkiye’s Agricultural Technologies Cluster (TUME), led by its Board Chairman Abdulkadir Karagöz, here, a Prime Minister’s Office news release said.
Welcoming the delegation, the prime minister highlighted that there were vast opportunities to expand cooperation with the brotherly country Türkiye in agriculture and livestock sectors. He said Pakistan was committed to modernising its agriculture sector in line with global advancements, particularly by adopting innovative technologies as successfully practised in Türkiye’s agricultural commodities and livestock sectors.
During the meeting, TUME Board Chairman Abdulkadir Karagöz briefed the prime minister on the use of advanced technologies to enhance productivity in his organisation. He also expressed keen interest in expanding cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye in agriculture and livestock sectors.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to continue its national struggle with full determination against all forms of extremism, terrorism, hatred and violent ideologies. In his message on the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism, he said extremist and violent ideologies not only undermine the peace and stability of societies but also weaken fundamental human values such as humanity, tolerance, mutual respect and coexistence.
Over the past several decades, Pakistan has rendered unparalleled sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism. The sacrifices of our brave security personnel and innocent citizens stand as a proud testament to our national resolve, he added.
