A 32-year-old woman was shot dead outside a private bank in Sarafa Bazaar within the limits of the Paposh Nagar police station on Thursday.
The police said the incident occurred outside the bank when a security guard allegedly opened fire on the woman, critically injuring her. She was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The deceased was identified as Zahida, wife of Asif, and a resident of Chandni Chowk. According to the District Central police spokesperson, the police reached the scene immediately after receiving information and arrested the suspect on the spot.
The suspect, identified as Saleh, was taken into custody, and the pistol used in the incident was seized. Spent bullet casings were also recovered from the crime scene, while the Crime Scene Unit collected forensic evidence.
The spokesperson said that during initial questioning, the suspect claimed the shot was fired accidentally. However, during further interrogation, he admitted that he knew the woman and alleged that she had been blackmailing him, which led to the shooting.
The police said further investigation was under way to determine the exact motive and circumstances surrounding the incident.
