Punjab initiates VCs’ selection process for medical varsities

LAHORE: The Punjab government has formally launched the process for the appointment of vice chancellors of four major public-sector medical universities by notifying search committees. The notifications have been issued in pursuance of the applicable provisions of the Faisalabad Medical University Act, 2017, the Fatima Jinnah Medical University Act, 2015, the University of Health Sciences, Lahore Ordinance, 2002, and the King Edward Medical University Act, 2005.

A search committee comprising Ms Farkhanda Waseem Afzal as chairperson, along with Dr Ijaz Munir, the secretary of the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department, Shahid Hussain, rector LUMS, and Dr Muhammad Adnan Khan, health economist and member of the Health Advisory Committee have been set up for all these universities. They have been tasked to follow the procedure and eligibility and scoring criteria and to recommend a panel of three persons who, in its opinion, are suitable for appointment as vice chancellors.

All notifications have been issued by the secretary of the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department and circulated to the minister for specialised healthcare and medical education, the chief secretary Punjab, the principal secretaries to the governor and the chief minister of Punjab, the concerned vice chancellors, and senior departmental officers, including information technology, administrative and establishment wings, for information and necessary action.
