The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) on Monday began repair work on a major water supply line as part of efforts to stabilise and improve water distribution across the city during the holy month of Ramadan.

Officials said a leak was identified in the Phase-I main water line, measuring 84 inches in diameter, in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 19. Following a technical assessment, the authorities decided to carry out immediate repairs to restore the line and prevent further losses.

Repair work officially commenced at noon and would continue uninterrupted. According to a spokesperson, the total duration of the project had been set at 96 hours, with teams working round the clock to ensure timely completion. KW&SC officials said the repairs were expected to significantly improve water supply in affected areas and help prevent future leakages. Residents had been urged to use water responsibly during the repair period and cooperate with authorities to facilitate the work.

Earlier, in a statement, the KW&SC said specialised technical teams would remain present at the site throughout the operation to oversee the restoration process. During the repair work, water supply from the Dhabeji pumping station would be temporarily reduced, resulting in a shortfall of approximately 200 million gallons per day.
