Personnel of the Sindh Rangers, in coordination with the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the police, carried out a joint operation against extortionists in the Old Golimar area on the basis of intelligence information.

According to a spokesperson for the Sindh Rangers, the suspects opened fire on law enforcement personnel during the operation. In retaliatory firing, two suspects, Rashid and Haq, were apprehended in an injured condition, while two others, Waleed alias Dada and Moiz alias Alert Bacha, were also arrested. Weapons and a large quantity of narcotics were recovered from the suspects’ possession.

The spokesperson said Rashid and Abdul Haq alias Doctor are linked to extortion mafia figures Jameel Chhanga and Abdul Samad Kathiawari. Waleed alias Dada was associated with a Lyari-based drug trafficking group connected to extortionists Riyaz alias Sheena and Zahid Ladla, while Moiz alias Alert Bacha was linked to the Lyari gangster Arshad Pappu group.

Investigations revealed that the arrested suspects were involved in collecting and passing on information about private builders and other businessmen to extortion mafia leaders, who would later issue threats to extract extortion money. The suspects were also involved in aerial firing to spread fear and panic in the area when extortion demands were not met.

Rashid and Haq were described as habitual offenders who had previously been arrested and imprisoned. Raids were underway to apprehend the remaining accomplices. The arrested suspects, along with the recovered weapons and narcotics, had been handed over to the police for further legal action.

The public have been urged to report information about criminal elements to the nearest Rangers check post, the Rangers Helpline 1101, or the Rangers Madadgar WhatsApp service. Informants’ identities will be kept confidential.
