‘Punjab govt committed to urban improvement, better public services’

SARGODHA: Commissioner Hafiz Shaukat Ali on Monday said that urban improvement and the provision of better public services remained top priorities of the Punjab government.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting to review progress on ongoing projects under the ‘Suthra Punjab’ programme and the Punjab Chief Minister’s city beautification project.

Officers from the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), WASA, Sargodha Waste Management Company (SWMC), Municipal Corporation and other departments attended the meeting.The meeting discussed rehabilitation of city parks, road repairs, sewerage issues, restoration of streetlights and other civic facilities. Participants were also briefed on anti-encroachment operations, while SWMC presented a report on sanitation measures.

The commissioner directed all departments to submit weekly progress reports, supported by photographic evidence of completed work.CITRUS EXPORTS FROM SARGODHA SURGE TO 97,000 METRIC TONS: Citrus exports from Sargodha district have surged this season, with more than 97,000 metric tons exported so far, while total exports are expected to exceed 120,000 metric tons.

The progress was shared during a review meeting of the Chief Minister Punjab’s Citrus Revival Programme, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Hussain Ahmed Raza Chaudhry.Officials informed that 70 percent of the citrus crop had already been sold, with no market crisis reported. Farmers received satisfactory prices, reaching Rs1,500 to Rs1,700 per maund.

Compared to last season, the share of high-quality citrus exports increased from 30 percent to 50 percent. Citrus production is expected to exceed 3.0 million metric tons this year.The DC directed departments to use modern communication tools, including social media and mobile apps, to guide farmers, especially in remote areas.

RPO REVIEWS POLICE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS: A meeting to review police development projects was held at the Regional Police Office under the chairmanship of RPO Muhammad Shahzad Asif Khan.

The meeting was attended by DPO Muhammad Sohaib Ashraf, Superintendent Engineer Building Circle, Vice Principal Police Training School, SP Highway Patrol and SP Operations Safe City, while DPOs of Khushab, Mianwali and Bhakkar joined via video link. Officials informed the meeting that 24 police development projects were underway across the region, including 10 in Sargodha, three each in Khushab and Mianwali, two in Bhakkar, three for Punjab Highway Patrol and three at the Police Training School.

The RPO directed that all projects be completed at the earliest while strictly maintaining construction quality.

SAHULAT RAMAZAN BAZAARS: Punjab Sahulat Bazaars Authority (PSBA) Chairperson Muhammad Afzal Khokhar met Commissioner Hafiz Shaukat Ali on Monday to review progress on Sahulat Bazaars.According to a spokesperson, all deputy commissioners of Sargodha Division attended the meeting.
