Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Alam Odho met a delegation of the governing body of the Crime Reporters Association Karachi (CRA) at the Central Police Office (CPO), Karachi. The delegation was led by CRA President Sameer Qureshi.
During the meeting, discussions were held on mutual cooperation, professional matters, the role of media in crime prevention, and strengthening coordination between the police and crime reporters.
The media and public relations SSP and CPO Press Director were also present on the occasion.
The CRA delegation included Vice President Ubaidullah Shah, General Secretary Nadeem Ahmed, Secretary Information Asif Khan, Treasurer Akram Qureshi, and governing body members Adnan Rajput, Aurangzeb Jabbar, Saqib Alam, Saba Urooj Khan, Azhar Zaidi, Matloob Baig and Waheed Jilani.
The delegation briefed the IGP on ongoing initiatives related to the training of CRA members, welfare activities, awareness campaigns and efforts to address professional challenges faced by journalists.
On the occasion, the CRA general secretary expressed concern over cases registered against journalists under political pressure during the course of their duties, terming such practices harmful to freedom of expression and journalism.
It was agreed during the meeting that in case of any complaint or issue faced by journalists, the association would be taken on board and issues would be resolved through mutual consultation and a joint coordinated strategy.
IG Odho appreciated the positive and responsible role of crime reporters in social reform, improving law and order, and highlighting and preventing street crime and other criminal activities. He said crime reporters had always encouraged the police and other law enforcement agencies.
The Sindh police chief said the police were moving towards modern policing, in which the role of media was indispensable.
The future lied in technology-based policing, he said, adding that security measures were being strengthened through inter-institutional cooperation and information sharing.
Welcoming the delegation’s suggestions regarding joint initiatives between the police and crime reporters, the IGP said sustained coordination was the need of the hour. He reaffirmed that the Sindh police would continue efforts at all levels to promote public-friendly and effective policing.
