Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab recently formally inaugurated the Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) Unified App, a new digital platform launched by the KWSC to consolidate all water and sewerage services into a single mobile application.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, the mayor said the initiative represented a ‘digital transformation’ of the city’s water utility, allowing residents to access essential services through one platform.
The app enables users to lodge complaints, pay bills, book water tankers, and track service requests directly from their smartphones.
Officials said the project was introduced on the mayor’s special directives with the aim of ensuring the citizens’ convenience, efficiency and transparency. Senior officials present at the event included KWSC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, Chief Operating Officer Engineer Asadullah Khan, Chief Financial Officer Ammar Ali Khan, Chief Communication Officer Naveed Siddiqui, and Chief Information Technology Officer (CIO) Sadat Anwar, among others.
During a technical briefing, the CIO outlined the app’s features, usability and backend systems.
Wahab said the platform reflected the administration’s vision of ‘One App, One System, One Karachi,’ emphasising that public services must adapt to modern digital expectations.
The app is available in Urdu, English and Sindhi and has been designed to be user-friendly. Registration and verification are completed in a few steps, with account activation through a one-time password (OTP).
Officials said automation was expected to save the water utility millions of rupees annually, while shifting the billing system to the 1LINK platform was intended to improve transparency and boost revenue collection.
Wahab said citizens would be able to monitor the status of their applications and access detailed information about available services through the app.
He also announced the start of a Rs500 million water pipeline project in Steel Town, stating that work would begin immediately and be completed during the last 10 days of Ramazan.
He said water supply to working-class communities in the area was a top priority of the city government.
The mayor also disclosed that the Pakistan Steel Mills owed the KWSC approximately Rs12 billion, adding that efforts were under way to recover the outstanding dues. He stressed that the city needed practical solutions rather than political accusations and said all complaints would be investigated transparently.
To enhance institutional transparency, the mayor said the water corporation had implemented an SAP-based financial and administrative system, which had helped identify irregular appointments and bring all expenditures under a centralised framework. As a result of these reforms, he said, Rs2.2 billion ha been accumulated in the KWSC accounts by January 2026.
He further announced that the office of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP) would be shifted to the KWSC in the coming weeks to improve coordination and planning.
Concluding the ceremony, the mayor commended the water corporation’s management and staff for advancing digital reforms and urged the residents to download the KWSC Unified App. For additional information, citizens may contact the water corporation’s helpline at 1334.
