ISLAMABAD: US Charge d’affaires Natalie A Baker has reached Lahore to join the Lahoriites in celebrating Basant.
She told The News on Thursday evening from the Punjab capital that “I am delighted to be in Lahore for the first Basant celebration in many years”.
To a question, she termed it a joyful reminder of the deep cultural traditions that bring communities together.Natalie reminded that “as the United States approaches the 250th anniversary of our independence, we celebrate not only our own history but also enduring friendships like the strong partnership between the United States and Pakistan”.The US diplomat said that being in Lahore for Basant during the year of America’s 250th anniversary highlighted the strength of US-Pakistan partnership and shared commitment to opportunity, prosperity and cultural exchange. “Our two nations continue to deepen cooperation that benefits both Americans and Pakistanis, and I am honoured to mark this special moment together.”
Meanwhile, several ambassadors, high commissioners and diplomats along with their families are also moving to Lahore for enjoying Basant taking place after a quarter century. Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan Raimundas Karoblis and his spouse have reached Lahore. He rode a motorbike in Lahore. The Punjab government has made exclusive security and protocol arrangements for the foreign envoys dashing to Lahore for the delightful occasion.
