PESHAWAR: The 21st Foundation Day of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWUP) was celebrated on Wednesday, highlighting the empowerment of women through education.
The collaboration for the event was struck with Majestic Event Planner, a startup founded by an alumna of the SBBWUP.The programme commenced with a welcome address by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Safia Ahmad, who reflected on the university’s progress over the past two decades. She emphasized the institution’s commitment to fostering innovation, research, and leadership among women, while acknowledging the collective efforts of faculty, staff, and students in shaping SBBWUP’s legacy.
Prof Dr Safia Ahmad thanked the faculty, staff, alumnae, and students for their unwavering commitment to the university’s mission.“SBBWUP has always been a beacon of hope and empowerment for women. As we celebrate our 21st Foundation Day, we honour not only our past achievements but also the bright future that lies ahead through collaboration, innovation, and the success of our alumni,” she said.
The chief guest, Secretary Higher Education Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Israr, commended the university’s role in empowering women through quality education and appreciated its efforts in building strong partnerships with academia, industry, and public sector organizations.
Meanwhile, the university administration signed 14 memorandums of understanding with various organizations and three public sector universities to strengthen academic and professional linkages aimed at enhancing research, training, and career opportunities for students.
Zainab Waheed, an alumna from the Department of Psychology, shared her inspiring success story, reflecting the university’s role in shaping confident and accomplished graduates.The vice chancellor appreciated the dedication of faculty members and distributed awards for Best Department and Best University Researcher.
Commendation awards were presented to administrative staff, as well as Class III and Class IV employees, in recognition of their contributions to the university’s growth and operations.Momina, an alumna of SBBWUP, was also recognized for her entrepreneurial journey in establishing Majestic Event Planner, which collaborated with the university to organize the landmark celebration. It is worth mentioning that SBBWUP is the first public sector women’s university in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa. Since its inception, the university has been dedicated to providing quality education, promoting research, and empowering women to become leaders in diverse.
