Islamabad:The Islamabad Police reported a 50 per cent reduction in overall crime during the first month of 2026 compared to the same period last year, following a month-long intensification of operations against street crime and organised networks.
According to official performance data, police units arrested 2,161 suspects and recovered stolen property valued at more than Rs17.8 million. The crackdown primarily targeted street-level offenses, resulting in the dismantling of gangs and the recovery of 31 vehicles and 47 motorcycles.
Police efforts focused on organized crime and illegal activities across the federal capital: Taking up organized crime, the authorities neutralised 40 members of 99 criminal gangs involved in robbery, snatching, and vehicle theft.
During the crackdown on the proclaimed offenders, a total of 483 wanted criminals and convicts were apprehended. Under the ‘Weapon-Free Islamabad’ campaign, 205 suspects were arrested. Seizures included 28 rifles, 155 pistols, and 1,376 rounds of ammunition.
The ‘Nasha Ab Nahi’ initiative led to 151 registered cases and 153 arrests. Seizures totaled 29 kg of hashish, 18 kg of heroin, and 14 kg of ‘Ice’. In addition to enforcement, the Islamabad Police registered 10 cases against land grabbers and arrested 538 professional beggars. To maintain city-wide security, 147 search and combing operations were conducted throughout the month.
SSP Operations Islamabad, Qazi Ali Raza, stated that the department has designated 2026 as the ‘Year of Public Service Delivery.’ As part of this initiative, more than 70 open courts were held to address public grievances directly. He reaffirmed that all police offices remain open 24/7 to ensure the protection of citizens' lives and property.
