This refers to the article, 'Nexus or confluence?' (January 28) by Dr Zafar Ullah Koresshi. The article offers a compelling analysis of the symbiotic relationship between AI, data centres and micro nuclear reactors, and how this nexus can address Pakistan’s economic challenges, particularly the chronic power shortage that continues to cripple industrial growth. His proposal to establish world-class data centres while deploying micro nuclear reactors to power them is both innovative and practical. This dual approach could create a new economic sector while addressing the country’s persistent energy crisis by providing reliable electricity for technology infrastructure and traditional industries. Pakistan can leverage its existing nuclear infrastructure and trained human resources to join the exclusive club of countries operating advanced data centres. The main hurdle remains a lack of finances and political will, but if Pakistan wishes to join advanced economies, bold decisions with long-term impact will be unavoidable.
