The assassination of the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei by the US and Israel is undoubtedly a dastardly and shameful war crime. Murdering the most exalted leader of a country in a war is against all conventions of international law. The Iranian supreme leader was not a combatant. His murder was, in a way, yet another crime committed by the terrorist state of Israel, which has already murdered more than 70,000 Palestinians, including women and children. The war thrust on Iran was an unjust and illegal act from the beginning, as Iran had not threatened the security of any nation. Israel’s hubris and expansionist designs and senseless support by the US started this conflagration.
The unwarranted Israeli –American attack on Iran has put the whole Middle East and other regions under the threat of war. The Gulf countries that have American bases are being dragged into the war. But it would be futile to expect any reasonableness from Israeli PM Netanyahu. However, President Trump, who till recently aspired a Nobel Peace Prize, would probably not like his legacy to be starting a war without any clear-cut aims and objectives simply at the prodding of Israel.
