LALAMUSA: Two members of an inter-district robbery gang, including its notorious ringleader, were killed during a police ‘encounter’ in the Sadar police area on Friday.

The suspects belonged to the Noman alias Noma gang, which had been active across Gujrat and adjoining districts for several years. Police records show the two men were wanted in 77 serious criminal cases, including armed robberies, vehicle theft, illegal possession of weapons and violent attacks on citizens.

Police officials said the gang had long terrorised commuters by erecting illegal road blockades, stopping vehicles at gunpoint and using extreme violence during robberies.

The gang’s alleged mastermind Noman Ali alias Noma of Mohallah Islampura, Lalamusa, was arrested along with his accomplice Qadeer Ahmed, son of Bashir Ahmed of Mohallah Rehmatpura, Lalamusa. Police said Noman was involved in 29 criminal cases, while Qadeer had 48 cases on record, most of them involving serious offences.

Both suspects were on physical remand in a robbery case registered at Karianwala police station. During interrogation, they disclosed information about stolen property looted from a citizen within Karianwala’s jurisdiction.
