RAWALPINDI: Anti-Terrorism Court, Rawalpindi, has accepted the petition for hearing regarding medical examination of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi.
The court issued notices to parties and adjourned the hearing till today (Friday). Lawyer Muhammad Faisal Malik took the position in the petition that they are concerned about media reports regarding health of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, therefore, both of them should be medically examined immediately.
The petition, citing the names of PTI founder’s three personal physicians, has requested that both of them be medically examined by their personal physicians.
In another case, a division bench of the Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi bench comprising Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Justice Tahir Mahmood Bajwa has sought a response from the Advocate General Punjab within a week on a petition filed against the video link in the GHQ attack case.
On Thursday, during the initial hearing of the petition, former PTI chairman’s lawyers Sardar Latif Khosa and Faisal Malik appeared in the court. They took the position that a fair trial of such an important case is not possible via video link.
“Half of the trial of the case has taken place in jail. In this context, there is no justification for the Punjab government’s notification of the video link trial.” The petitioner’s lawyers requested that the former PTI chairman be presented in court or be tried in jail. After hearing the initial arguments, the court adjourned the hearing, seeking a response from the Advocate General Punjab within a week.
It should be recalled that the former PTI chairman had on May 9 submitted a government notification regarding the trial via video link in the GHQ attack case. The notification has been challenged.
