A couple was murdered and a passerby injured in an armed attack in the Sukhan area on Wednesday evening.
Three people, including a woman, were injured in a firing incident near Bhains Colony’s Road No. 11, Insaf Kanta, Sukhan. Police said that responding to information, they rushed to the spot where they found three people lying injured.
With the help of rescue teams, police took the casualties to Jinnah Hospital, where the woman and her husband died during treatment. The deceased were identified as 27-year-old Saima, wife of Sudhir, and 30-year-old Sudhir, son of Abdul Hameed, while the injured person was identified as 53-year-old Bashir Ahmed, son of Somar Khan, who is said to be a passerby.
According to the police, the victims had married in Sujawal a month ago. Afterwards, they had come to Karachi and had been living in the Sukhan area.
On Wednesday evening, both the husband and wife had gone out for buying groceries. When they returned to the area, the attackers who had previously ambushed them as well opened fire on them and fled.
The police said that initially it was learned that Saima’s father, Deedar, along with two of his accomplices, fired gunshots at them before fleeing. It seems the two were killed for performing freewill marriage. A search has been launched for the suspects. Sindh police chief Javed Alam Odho has taken notice of the double murder and sought a report on the incident from the DIG East.
