PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday disposed of four cases filed by Member National Assembly Sher Afzal Marwat seeking the quashment of cases registered against him.
Hearing the petitions by a two-member bench comprising Justice Sahibzada Asadullah and Justice Dr Khurshid Iqbal, the court also adjourned the hearing in nine other cases after summoning the relevant records.
Additional Advocate General (AAG) Muhammad Inam Yousafzai, Sher Afzal Marwat, and Zahir Shah Marwat advocate appeared before the court.Justice Sahibzada Asadullah inquired whether the details of the first information reports (FIRs) had been provided.
In response, AAG Inam Yousafzai informed the court that in cases registered in Dir, Chakdara and Kohat, Sher Afzal Marwat had already been acquitted. He said that a comprehensive report had been submitted, containing separate details of each case.
Sher Afzal Marwat told the court that he had also been associated with those cases. Justice Sahibzada Asadullah then asked about the status of the FIR filed in Ghallani. Sher Afzal Marwat said that the FIR had been registered by a private individual, who alleged that after listening to his speech, he believed it contained remarks against the state.
He pleaded that in one FIR, he had been accused of riding a motorcycle with a pillion rider. Justice Sahibzada Asadullah asked where the alleged violation had taken place, to which Sher Afzal Marwat replied that the FIR had been registered in Swabi, claiming that double riding had caused a road blockage.
