KOHAT: The police and security forces foiled a major terrorist plot, recovering a large cache of explosives, weapons, documents, laptops and other equipment, officials said on Thursday.
Regional Police Officer, Kohat, Irfan Tariq, told reporters that a joint intelligence-based operation in the eastern hilly area of the district prevented a significant terrorist attempt in the city. The operation was conducted at a farmhouse where authorities seized heavy arms, ready-to-use IEDs, hand grenades, and communication devices.
Meanwhile, the authorities in Kohat have begun sealing shops run by Afghan refugees in the city’s main market.Deputy Commissioner Rahimullah Mehsud told the media that the process started in Khattaki Market after the deadline for compliance had expired. He said the measures were being taken in accordance with government orders and to crack down on illegal businesses.
