ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Technology & Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja said on Wednesday that the next spectrum auction would ensure a new era of digital transformation in the country.
About the Information Memorandum (IT) for launching the new spectrum, the minister said that it was welcomed by the stakeholders as it aimed at not only collecting golden eggs in one go but also incentivise the sector to achieve growth in a consistent and sustained manner.
The Federal Minister for IT, Shaza Fatima, was addressing a ceremony here at the Universal Service Fund (USF) to witness four agreements signed by the USF and Jazz for provision of connectivity in 209 Mauzas in Punjab and KP with the cost of Rs1.16 billion.
The agreements were formally signed by Chaudhry Mudassar Naveed, CEO of USF, and Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz. Under these contracts, the provision of high-speed broadband services will be ensured across nine districts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The projects are valued at Rs1.16 billion.
The minister said USF has approved projects worth Rs20.54 billion in the last six months. About six projects are going to commence in Sindh and Balochistan by the USF. She directed that the projects approved for Punjab and KP should be completed in 6 to 18 months period and ensure connectivity among 0.5 million inhabitants living in nine selected districts.
