LAHORE:On the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority has established a virtual centre for educational institutions security to further strengthen security arrangements at educational institutions across the province.
Under the initiative, all public and private schools and colleges in Punjab, including Lahore, are being linked to a centralised digital security platform. A PSCA spokesperson said the registration of teachers and security staff of educational institutions into the Safe Cities integrated system was being carried out in phases.
Under the system, teachers will update the security status of their institutions three times a day through the Public Safety App. If any institution is marked unsafe, the system will automatically generate alerts for the relevant police and administrative authorities to ensure immediate response.
The spokesperson said teachers could also directly connect with Safe Cities through the “connect to camera” feature, under which a mobile phone camera can temporarily function as a Safe Cities camera.
This will enable live video sharing during emergency situations and provide instant visual access to facilitate timely assistance and improved protection for students. He added that more than 30,000 educational institutions had so far been registered under the Virtual Centre for Educational Security, while the registration of over 130,000 teachers had been completed.
Security cameras installed at educational institutions are also planned to be integrated with PSCA’s live monitoring system to ensure swift action in case of emergencies. The PSCA said it remained committed to ensuring the safety of students, teachers and staff through the effective use of modern technology, in line with the vision of the chief minister to provide a safe and secure educational environment across the province.
