The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has killed a man allegedly linked to the Jamil Chhanga extortionist gang. Separately, a man allegedly involved in a youth’s killing during phone snatching was killed in an alleged encounter, while a man was arrested for allegedly attempting sexual assault on a woman.
According to an SIU spokesman, the unit conducted an operation after receiving information about the presence of extortionists linked to the Jamil Chhanga gang. He said an exchange of fire between the suspects and the SIU team occurred during the operation, resulting in the killing of a suspect.
A motorbike, a pistol and a phone were recovered from the deceased, while efforts are under way to ascertain his identity and complete further legal proceedings, he added. Separately, following strict directives issued by West Zone police chief Irfan Baloch, a man allegedly involved in a youth’s killing during phone snatching was killed in a police encounter.
According to a spokesman for DIG Baloch, the encounter took place near Eidgah Ground in Sector 5-B of Bilal Colony. He said that during an exchange of fire, a suspect was killed while his accomplice managed to escape on a motorbike. The deceased was identified as Jahanzeb, alias Mama, he added.
He also said police recovered a pistol from him after the encounter. The suspect had gunned down 18-year-old Saad a few days ago, and his criminal record shows his involvement in several serious crimes, he added.
According to police records, cases registered against the suspect include violations of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, the Sindh Arms Act, the Pakistan Penal Code and the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Sharafi Goth police station between 2020 and 2023. Raids are under way to arrest the fleeing accomplice.
Meanwhile, police arrested a man allegedly involved in attempting sexual assault on a woman. According to Keamari Investigation SSP Touheed Rahman Memon, the suspect attempted to sexually assault his female neighbour after finding her home alone. The officer said that when the woman resisted, the man allegedly subjected her to violence.
A case had been registered at the Mauripur police station. The suspect had gone into hiding, but the investigation team of the Mauripur police arrested him through technical means. The suspect was identified as Yasin, son of Ghulam Nabi. Police said that further investigation is under way to ascertain any possible involvement of the suspect in other similar incidents.
