The Sindh government has decided to make efforts to resolve the problems faced by transporters. In this regard, a telephonic conversation took place between Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance President Malik Shahzad Awan.

During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on the challenges faced by transporters following the recent increase in petroleum prices. Awan informed the senior minister that running the transport business has become difficult due to rising fuel prices, and requested the Sindh and federal governments to provide relief in toll tax and other provincial taxes. He added that Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon had him assured that efforts would be made to address the issues faced by transporters.

Memon assured transporters of full cooperation and stated that the Sindh government was well aware of the difficulties faced by the transport sector. He said the increase in petroleum prices is a national issue that affects every sector; however, the government is seriously considering practical proposals to provide relief to transporters.

He further stated that the transport sector is the backbone of the country’s economy, and its challenges cannot be ignored. He added that consultations will be held with the relevant authorities regarding possible relief in toll tax and other provincial taxes, while efforts are being made to find solutions to transporters’ problems through a coordinated strategy.
