TANK: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Wednesday visited the Tank Police Lines where he laid floral wreaths at the Martyrs’ Memorial and prayed for the departed souls.

During the visit, the chief minister met the families of martyred police personnel, listened to their issues, and prayed for the elevation of the ranks of the martyrs and patience for their bereaved families. Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed and Commissioner, Dera Ismail Khan Division, Daud Khan were also present with the Chief Minister.

Addressing the families of the martyrs, the chief minister said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police were bravely fighting terrorists on the frontline and that all issues faced by the police would be resolved at the earliest.

He remarked that while death is inevitable, attaining martyrdom in the cause of the homeland and the nation was the greatest honour.

The chief minister said that in the war against terrorism, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Special Branch, police, security forces, and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had rendered immense sacrifices.

The people of the province, he added, had made unparalleled sacrifices for peace in the country, and the entire nation had stood united in every difficult hour.

He said that the whole world knew that this was not their war and that they were forced into it. Unfortunately, he said, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been making continuous sacrifices for the last two decades.

He claimed that together, the people of the province, the police, and security forces had sacrificed more than 80,000 lives for peace in Pakistan and the region.

Assuring full support to the families of martyred police personnel, the chief minister said that the provincial government would continue to stand by them in every possible way.

Meanwhile, local media persons once again staged a protest over being kept away from covering the event.

During the chief minister’s visit, the Tank-Dera Ismail Khan main highway was completely closed for all types of traffic, causing severe inconvenience to commuters and local residents.
