RAWALPINDI: The lawyer of Aleema Khanum, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, completed the cross-examination of six more witnesses in the case lodged by Sadiqabad police station in connection with the November 26 protest by the PTI in front of the Special Court Rawalpindi, on Wednesday.
Aleema Khanum appeared in the court along with her lawyer Faisal Malik, while Special Prosecutor Zaheer Shah was also present with his team. Aleema Khanum’s lawyer completed the cross-examination of six witnesses -- ASI Zaheer, Constable Babar, ASI Kazim Raza, Assistant IT Police Tariq, SI Iqbal and DFC Mursalin.
So far, the cross-examination of a total of seven witnesses has been completed in this case. During the hearing that lasted for three hours without any break, Aleema Khanum’s video statement was also played on the screen, while bitter words were exchanged between the defence and prosecution lawyers during the cross-examination.
The prosecution took the position that the defence lawyers were wasting the court’s time by asking unnecessary questions from the witnesses, while Aleema’s counsel stated that it was the defence lawyer’s right to cross-examine and the prosecution could not interfere.
However, after the completion of cross-examination of the six witnesses, the court summoned more witnesses and adjourned the hearing till Thursday (today).
