Water scarcity has become a dreadful reality for the people. Over 80 per cent of Pakistan’s population lacks access to safe drinking water, while the country’s key lifeline – the Indus River basin – faces extreme mounting shortages. Pakistan must now treat water security as a national emergency.

Strengthening the National Water Council, regulating groundwater, introducing volumetric pricing, investing in storage and wastewater treatment and establishing an independent water quality authority that can ensure the portability of water are necessary steps to solving the nation’s water scarcity crisis.
