ISLAMABAD: Persistent rain forced the abandonment of the ICC Under-19 World Cup warm-up match between Pakistan and Bangladesh at the Masvingo Sports Club (Zimbabwe), denying both sides a valuable opportunity to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the global showpiece.
After winning the toss, Pakistan Under-19 elected to field first, a decision that quickly proved effective as their bowlers applied early pressure under overcast conditions. Bangladesh Under-19 managed to post 152 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 36.3 overs before rain intervened and eventually washed out the remainder of the contest.
Pakistan’s young pace sensation Ali Raza was the standout performer with the ball, delivering a spirited spell and claiming three crucial wickets to keep the Bangladeshi batting in check. Despite regular wickets falling at the other end, Kalam Siddiqui displayed remarkable composure and resilience, anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 71, a knock that stood out on an otherwise difficult day for the batters. With no further play possible due to worsening weather, officials had no option but to call off the match. Both teams will now look ahead to their remaining warm-up fixtures and final training sessions as they seek to adjust to Zimbabwean conditions before the ICC Under-19 World Cup gets underway.
